The Ilocos Adventure: Laoag

Laoag is roughly a 2-hour trip from Vigan. Could be shorter when your driver is too fast and too furious (ehem...JM) On the way here, we met with our fellow newlyweds Yam (the birthday girl) and JM just along the main highway outside Vigan. Our first stop was the Paoay Church which is part of UNESCO's world heritage list.

Then we visited the MalacaƱang of the North (aka Marcos's Residence) and Paoay Lake.

Lovers in Paoay Lake

The much awaited lunch time was spent in the town proper of Laoag. JM introduced us to Macys -- an Old Holywood-inspired diner. Here we got ourselves the Ilocano specialty -- bagnet. Boy did it not disappoint. The other couple had buffalo wings and something shrimp, I guess (haha sorry for the dysfunctional memory). Don't forget to try this restau. The food and the ambiance were great!

After lunch, we went our separate ways -- themselves to their hotel, us to Pagudpud. Unlike most vacationists, we didn't visit the sand dunes anymore as we didn't have much time. Pagudpud is the highlight of this honeymoon/vacation, anyway.

  1. OMGGGGG! I miss Ilocos! I'm missing it even more after reading your blog. Maybe I should give in on hubby's insistent demand that we arrange a vacay in Ilocos this year. Thanks for sharing! :-)

  2. Macy's Diner reminds me of Bigg's Diner. They have similar concepts and styling, sans the Ilocano specialty though. ;)
