When a haircut fails

haircut fail, haircut for wavy hair
Before: December 24, 2013 (Hair in its normal uncombed state)
After: January 21, 2014 (Hair was blown dry)

After months of procrastination, I have finally braved to get myself a haircut. If you don't know me, getting a haircut from a salon is something I don't really do. I DIY almost everything for my hair -- from trimming the ends and enhancing the layers to even dyeing the roots. In my 25 years of existence, I don't remember getting a haircut from a professional for more than 4 times (including this one). And last night, I was reminded why -- they don't listen to instructions. Either that or they fail to follow even if they try. It's either the hair becomes too short for me like shown above, or barely touched like the last one I had

Last night was a battle. Upon seeing the innumerable half-a-ruler strands of hair lying on the salon floor, I had to make a conscious effort to fight back my tears. On the way home, I resolved to look for silver linings than to sulk my way to acceptance. Needless to say, the first one was more fruitful and even healthier for the soul. For one, there's less shampoo and conditioner to buy every payday. Second, and most importantly, I learned later that the husband likes the new look. That is enough reason for me to cheer up. In fact, the morning after, when the locks went back to its original wavy and unorganized self, I realized it wasn't too bad.

Last night took a turn for the better when hubby arrived with a favorite mocha cake in hand. I almost forgot we were also celebrating our 8th month of marriage. There are a lot of things to be very thankful for that crying over spilled milk suddenly seemed mundane if not ridiculous. I have an amazing husband, good health, a new job, and a happy family. Thank God for reminding me how good life is. Thank God for silver linings

  1. Post a pic of what your hair looks like after washing? :) It doesn't look bad actually, in the After photos. But I totally get you about feeling that way when the stylist snipped off your long hair--a bit too much. I felt exactly the same way when I decided to shorten my then butt-long hair a couple or so years ago. I ended up with hair barely reaching my bra line. Needless to say I was in shock after, so much that Franco had to drag me to Starbucks for an impromptu cup of coffee (mind you, the guy does not drink coffee).

    1. That's another thing to brave, I guess. It's not very beautiful in person (yes, because the old look was sooooo gorgeous haha) so I don't know how it'll fare in photos. But yeah, I'm sure I can't hide forever so you'll see in a week or so :)

That's so sweet of Franco (so that's his name, nice). I'm sure it was hard for you. Hello, that's like half or more of the length of your hair! But you did move on, right? I'm actually glad I was able to recover fast. :)

    2. I was able to move on... eventually. The coffee was just to snap out my shock. Lol.

  2. Hi V, Miss you. :-)
I remember my haircut disaster moment not so long ago... after my disastrous haircut, I left the parlor in total shock with my just-dry-hagdan-palayan-looking-hair, then went straight to another salon and cry uncontrollably there. I was so helpless that everyone inside the salon comforted me and the owner gave me their best stylist to re-do my hair... we all became friends since then. they even do my make-up during my wedding. I think every girl has some kind of a hair disaster moment. ;-)

  3. From the looks of it, i think it is more youthful and nice too. I don't want to say "it's just hair, it'll grow back" cause I hate it when people tell me that. I'm glad you rose above it and saw that there's more to life than worrying about the littlelest things. Always see the silver lining!!

  4. Hah! The observations here are correct... you definitely look younger with the new hairstyle. It'll take some getting used to, I know. When I had my haircut a couple of months ago, I felt regret as well especially since my second hair rebond experience didn't turn out well.

Happy 8th month to you and your hubby! Here's to many more years of togetherness for you both. :)

    1. You are so right! I actually love my hair now. In fact, I've been getting affirmation and compliments from hubby about it. It looks healthier and more youthful. Oh well. Glad I didn't invest so much energy dwelling on the disappointment that night.

Gee thanks Rose! You're sweet :)

  5. How sweet your hubby is. Dates or worst special events are not common for men to remember unless it's a birthday, wedding anniversary. lucky you!
